Work Shift Time – 7:30 am – 4:30 am

 

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer is a critical role within the Software Engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will have significant autonomy and a broad remit across quality assurance, test automation, release quality, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with engineers, product owners, and other stakeholders across Australia and India to establish high-quality engineering practices and ensure software is reliable, scalable, and fit for production.

We are looking for an experienced QA professional with strong expertise in test automation, API testing, and modern quality engineering practices. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining automated test frameworks, improving our overall test strategy, identifying quality risks early, and helping establish automation as a core part of the software development lifecycle. Experience with Cyprus, as well as a strong understanding of REST APIs and Open API 3.0, is highly desirable.

 

Responsibilities of the Role:

 

Quality Engineering & Test Strategy

  • Own and continuously improve the QA and test automation strategy across the software development lifecycle.
  • Define appropriate testing approaches across unit, integration, API, functional, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Identify quality risks early in the development lifecycle and work with engineering and product teams to address them.
  • Establish appropriate test coverage and quality standards for new features and existing functionality.
  • Promote a shift-left approach to quality by engaging early in requirements, design, and development.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality through automation, tooling, process improvements, and AI-enabled testing.

Test Automation

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test suites.
  • Develop reusable automation frameworks and components that can scale as the product grows.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests using Cyprus, where appropriate.
  • Automate API, integration, functional, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Identify manual testing activities that can be automated and prioritise automation based on risk and value.
  • Ensure automated tests are reliable, maintainable, and provide meaningful feedback to engineering teams.
  • Continuously improve test execution speed, reliability, and coverage.

API & Integration Testing

  • Design and execute comprehensive API testing strategies.
  • Test RESTful APIs and integrations across internal and third-party systems.
  • Work with Open API 3.0 specifications to understand API contracts and generate appropriate test scenarios.
  • Validate API responses, business logic, data integrity, error handling, authentication, authorisation, and edge cases.
  • Identify integration risks and ensure appropriate automated coverage is established.

CI/CD & Quality Gates

  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Establish automated quality gates to prevent defects from progressing through the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure automated regression suites execute reliably as part of the deployment process.
  • Investigate and resolve failed automated tests and distinguish between genuine defects and test/environment issues.
  • Provide clear and actionable feedback to development teams through automated test results.

Release & Production Quality

  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to assess release readiness.
  • Ensure releases meet agreed quality standards before production deployment.
  • Monitor defect trends and release quality metrics.
  • Ensure high-severity and regression defects are identified and addressed before
  • production wherever possible.
  • Participate in production incident investigations and contribute to root cause analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to prevent recurring production defects through improved testing and engineering practices.

Defect Management

  • Identify, investigate, document, and track defects through to resolution.
  • Provide developers with clear reproduction steps, evidence, logs, and technical context.
  • Analyse defects to identify root causes and recurring quality issues.
  • Prioritise defects based on customer impact, severity, risk, and business requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers to ensure defects are resolved effectively.

Collaboration & Engineering Practices

  • Work closely with software engineers, product owners, designers, and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate actively in sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives, and release planning.
  • Review requirements and acceptance criteria and identify gaps before development begins.
  • Participate in technical and code reviews where appropriate, providing feedback from a quality and testability perspective.
  • Advocate for testability, observability, reliability, and quality during solution design.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, QA processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level QA engineers.
  • Help establish consistent testing and automation standards across the QA team.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across the broader engineering team.
  • Identify capability gaps and contribute to the development of QA team members.
  • Take ownership of significant QA initiatives and drive them through to completion.
  • Act as a senior point of reference for automation and quality engineering practices.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging QA, automation, and software engineering practices.
  • Evaluate new testing tools, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Investigate the use of AI and automation to improve software quality and testing productivity.
  • Continuously improve the reliability, maintainability, and coverage of the automated test suite.

  • Experience working with JSON, HTTP methods, status codes, authentication, and API contracts.
  • Ability to investigate API issues using tools such as Postman, Ready API, or equivalent.
  • Comfortable reading application logs and using technical information to investigate defects.
  • Understanding of databases and SQL sufficient to validate data and investigate issues.

CI/CD & Engineering

  • Experience working within modern CI/CD environments.
